Sometimes in commercial groves you find off type trees that do not produce good fruit and blooms intensively but the setting of fruit is low .The top work is a technique ideal for this type of problems in the orchards, rather than erradicate and replant in a mature orchard you can take the advantage of maintaining the root stock and graft a new variety. After two years you will have a tree with the same size and vigor of the original one.
There are several methods of top working; some are faster and more efficient than others.
